When you are ready for an exterior home improvement project, chances are you will receive several different estimates.
As contractors visit, they will talk to you about the scope of the project, measure, often take photos and talk broadly through material options, warranties, and even add-ons. All of these pieces are important to determine that the price estimate matches the project.
When we visit customers, we take it a step further. We understand that most homeowners have little familiarity or experience with all of the pieces and parts of an exterior project. We take the time to ensure that each of our estimates is educational. But what does that mean?
Terms: Never heard of a soffit? What about a cricket? Do you even need one? We don’t just include a list of items that you won’t understand. We take the time to review each with you to make sure that you truly understand all of the pieces that are involved in the project—and why you need them.
Requirements: Exterior home improvements have to meet certain guidelines and standards. We want you to understand why we have to do things in a certain way to ensure that everything is up to code.
Options: We certainly review all of your options when it comes to materials (and there are a lot). Depending on the project, we can also use technology to show you what your choices will look like on your exact home. Additionally, you might have options in terms of size and scope. We will make suggestions, and talk you through your choices.
Unknowns: You don’t know what you don’t know–especially when it comes to roofs. In a perfect world, we would know if any of your roof deck was rotting, if you had cedar shake underneath your asphalt shingles, or any number of different variables. The truth is, sometimes it’s impossible to tell until tear off is well underway. We will make sure that you know about any potential unknowns, and what that might mean for your project and budget.
Financing/Payment Options: With your estimate, we can also share with you financing options and opportunities.
Warranties: Home improvements are big investments. We are proud to be able to offer our customers some of the best warranties in the business. We will talk you through your options, and help you select which makes the most sense for your home.
Why is an educational estimate important to us? Because an educated customer can make choices that they will be happy with in the long-term. It also enables the customer to look at each estimate with a critical eye—ensuring that they are comparing apples to apples.
