With fall quickly approaching, it’s important to evaluate the exterior of your home to make sure that it is ready for the colder months.
Don’t forget about your driveway! Did you know that an asphalt driveway lasts an average of 10-20 years? Durability depends on many factors–including weather, wear & tear, and regular maintenance. Believe it or not, even sunlight and oxygen break down your driveway.
Sealing is a great way to extend the life of your driveway and increase its visual appeal. It basically adds a layer of protection. Sealing is recommended every 1-3 years. It’s important to note that driveway sealing can only be done if the temperature is 50-55 degrees or higher for a period of at least 8 hours after the sealing is completed. If you haven’t sealed this year, now is the time!
But what does sealing do exactly?
- Seals small cracks
- This makes a huge difference! Small cracks tend to fill with water that then expands and contracts with the weather–especially in the winter. This makes big cracks!
- Slows corrosion
- Improves the overall appearance of the driveway
- Repels water
- Keeps salt from penetrating your driveway
- Repels oil spills
Sealing can make a big difference to your driveway this winter. Here at Allstate Roofing & More, LLC we don’t seal driveways, but there are many great companies in the area that do. But be sure to do your research before selecting a sealing contractor. Review sites like Angie’s List or the Better Business Bureau can help.
